To Our Detox Community

Diversity has always meant much more to me than simply acknowledging differences. It’s about moving beyond tolerance to celebrating the richness of individuals, regardless of who they love, what they look like, or where they come from. After all, the best things in life—family, friends, food, or beauty—are made even better from diversity.

I founded The Detox Market on the belief that our choices have real power, and that everyday changes can lead to profound, lasting transformation. When it comes to diversity and inclusion in the beauty industry, what matters most is not only awareness, but advocacy and action—taking concrete steps to pave a better way forward toward equality and representation.
We are committed to leading by example and being the industry change we want to see. Here’s how we’re starting.

Onwards and upwards, always,

Community & Culture

The goal of our Diversity & Inclusion council is to ensure everyone feels safe, heard, and valued. We’re prioritizing cross-departmental coffee chats, and implementing ongoing feedback opportunities to create the most welcoming environment possible.

Talent & Leadership

Representation matters. By investing in training, mentorship, and professional development resources for BIPOC employees, we’re doing our part to support a more equitable future.

Brands & Partnerships

We’re always on the hunt for a diverse pool of brands, and while this hasn’t changed, we’re doubling down on our commitment to proactively seek out partnerships that align with our values.

WE’VE SET A GOAL TO BE

Plastic Neutral
by 2023

Focusing our sustainability initiatives has helped us see clearly.

With the beauty industry producing one-third of the plastic in our ecosystem, it’s important that we’re a part of the change, not the problem. That’s why we’ve set a goal to become plastic neutral by 2023 and will support and hold our brand partners accountable to do the same.

What does the term ‘plastic neutral’ mean to us?

For every pound of plastic sold through The Detox Market, an equal amount of nature-bound plastic will be retrieved and appropriately disposed of—either recycled or repurposed.

We’re starting by cleaning up a mess that already exists...

With the beauty industry producing one-third of the plastic in our Cleanhub enables the safe collection and recovery of nature-bound plastic waste while creating sustainable jobs in the global south. This partnership helps us offset our plastic footprint so we can actively work towards our goal through real-time tracking.

…and working to stop
it in its tracks.

TerraCycle recycles over 97% of collected waste and reuses or upcycles the rest. TerraCycle helps us divert millions of pounds of waste from our environment by giving packaging—shampoo caps, lotion dispensers, foundation containers, and more—a second life.

20% of the brands we house are
plastic neutral certified—and this
number will only continue to grow.

What Climate Change Looks Like

In early 2020, we launched our Sustainability Starts Now campaign. We've always been conscious of our environmental impact, but after seeing climatologist Ed Hawkins’ Warming Stripes—a visual representation of the average global temperature from 1850 to today—we were inspired to do more.
